HVAF of Indiana has been awarded $50,000 from the Daughters of the American Revolution through its Vivian’s Outreach to Women grant program to support the creation of the Women Warrior Fund, a dedicated fund to support women veterans facing homelessness and housing instability. This is the first time HVAF has received this grant, marking an important investment in support designed specifically for women veterans in Central Indiana.

The Women Warrior Fund was created to help women veterans overcome barriers that can stand in the way of safe, stable housing. Many women veterans face trauma, domestic violence, financial hardship, caregiving demands, employment challenges, and other urgent needs that make it harder to secure long-term stability. Through this fund, we will make it possible for veterans to access the targeted support they need to move from crisis to independence.
This effort was made possible through a strong local partnership. Jill Fewell with Caroline Scott Harrison Chapter DAR, Indianapolis worked with HVAF’s CEO, Emmy Hildebrand, to create the women’s fund and nominated HVAF for the grant. Her leadership helped bring new attention and resources to the growing needs of women veterans in our community.
Support through the Women Warrior Fund can help address immediate and long-term needs, including emergency housing, housing stability assistance, employment readiness, transportation, mental health support, case management, and other urgent essentials.
Women veterans answered the call to serve. Now, we answer their call for support. HVAF is grateful to the Daughters of the American Revolution, The Caroline Scott Harrison Chapter DAR, Indianapolis, Jill Fewell, and every partner helping women veterans build safer, stronger futures.
