Journey to Housing & Healing
Keith proudly served 21 incredible years across the Army, Air Force, and National Guard Reserve, but transitioning to civilian life proved to be one of the most difficult battles he’d ever faced. Following his medical separation from the military, Keith encountered enormous challenges, including periods of homelessness.
Without a stable home, Keith was separated from his children. With their safety his top priority, he had his kids stay with a family member, while Keith endured nights sleeping in his car or couch-surfing. The competitive housing market only added to his struggle, leaving him juggling an unstable and unpredictable daily life as a father.
Everything began to change when YOU stepped in and connected Keith to HVAF. That very same day, he went from sleeping in his car to finding safety and stability at our Warman property, giving him the foundation he needed to rebuild his life.
But Keith’s ultimate goal was always to reunite with his children under one roof. Thanks to your belief in his potential, that dream became a reality. Just a few weeks later, Keith and his kids were reunited in their very own apartment, marking the beginning of a brighter and more hopeful chapter for them all.
But your support went far beyond just putting a roof over his head and reuniting a family. You introduced Keith to a compassionate and consistent support system, central to which was Kascha, HVAF’s full-time mental health clinician.
After years of cycling through different providers and struggling to build trust, Keith found in Kascha not just a therapist, but a true ally. Her unwavering dedication allowed him to feel understood and supported in a safe, judgment-free environment where he could begin to work through long-buried struggles.

Keith also embraced additional support, like music therapy, which had a powerful impact on his mental wellness. For the first time in years, he felt a renewed sense of confidence knowing he could finally rely on a dependable and empathetic network. “I’ve come away thinking I am in a better place,” Keith says with gratitude.
Keith speaks with profound appreciation for the compassionate care that Kascha continues to provide, recognizing her as an essential force in his progress.
“When I started therapy, Kascha told me she would be here for the long haul, and she’s stayed true to her word and continues to support me,” Keith said. For years, Keith had sought therapy through the VA, but was unable to find that consistent support that he found at HVAF.
“Knowing I’m in a judgment-free environment where I can comfortably work things out. It’s not easy, but it’s worth it.”
It was you that created this space, a place where Keith could focus on his mental health and untangle the challenges that once felt insurmountable. Together with Kascha, he began rebuilding not just his stability, but his hope for a brighter future. These sessions aren’t just conversations; they are lifelines made possible by you, our supporters, who believe every veteran deserves a chance to heal and thrive.
