April 1, 2021Remembering the life & legacy of Cindy Thomas
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Cindy Thomas. Cindy served on team HVAF from 2001 until 2018, most recently as the Executive Vice President for Programs. She was a vital part of our growth over the years and was known as someone with a passion for serving others. Her heart was truly committed to social work for our veterans.
We do not ignore that she left Earth on March 8 – International Women’s Day – and during Women’s History Month. Cindy was a huge advocate and supporter for women. Cindy’s friend, Chrissy Vasquez, said she always appreciated how much she loved and empowered her daughters.
“She loved each of the girls for why they were unique and really had them embrace that,” Chrissy said. “If a lot of women had that type of influence in their life there would be a lot more positive self-esteem. Cindy really taught you how to embrace your uniqueness and your gifts and your talents and to go forward with them regardless of what other people thought.”
HVAF’s GPD Director, Doneeka, also said Cindy helped her feel strong as a woman.
“She was always talking about women and our power, and how important that was,” Doneeka said. “It was awesome working with her.”
Along with her three daughters, Cindy leaves behind her family and countless friends. Many of these people have contributed to the video below, that shares Cindy’s incredible life and legacy:
