MEET MARY
Q: What do you do at HVAF?
A: I work with individuals and organizations within our community who are interested in helping our veterans. I set them up to volunteer in our pantry, at our housing locations, and more! I also communicate with those who have donated financially or provided in-kind donations.
Q: Why do you like working for HVAF?
A: I like working here at HVAF because I get to work with amazing community members who are dedicated to make a difference in our veterans’ lives. I also work with wonderful veterans in our pantry and feel like I am directly giving back to those who served for our country.
Q: Why do you want to serve veterans?
A: I want to help veterans because they served our country and gave years of their lives to protect ours. Many veterans came home to find a different world, and I want to do what I can to make sure they are given what they need to not just live but thrive.
Q: When you are not working, where can we find you?
A: You can find me relaxing at home, going to a Comic-Con or museum, and exploring bookstores!
Q: Anything else you would like to share?
A: Get involved! If you or someone you know is interested in volunteering, we always need help in our food and clothing pantry! You can also give financially or provide in-kind donations for the veterans.
VOLUNTEER FAQ
Q: How can I sign up to volunteer?
A: You can e-mail me directly at mmauer@hvaf.org and learn more about our different opportunities!
Q: Are there any off-site (at my workplace, school, church, home, etc.) volunteer opportunities?
A: Yes- making hygiene kits and/or snack packs and running collection drives are wonderful ways for groups to work together at their own pace.
Q: Can people under 18 years old volunteer?
A: Yes! Keep in mind that anyone under the age of 18 needs a parent or guardian present while volunteering at HVAF.
