Army veteran appreciates fresh start at HVAF
June 23, 2023Introducing: Roger That – A Podcast Presented by HVAF of Indiana
July 10, 2023Meet Team HVAF: Community Center Specialist Katie joins Indy Hunger Network Board
Katie has been with Team HVAF for 13 years! She started out as a volunteer for three years before officially becoming part of the team. She is now a Community Center Specialist at the front desk.
“I love being able to see the guys that keep coming back and visit and show us their progress and their growth and be in their lives a little bit,” Katie said.
Katie’s dad and uncles are veterans. Knowing the sacrifice they made, she likes that she can connect with HVAF’s veterans on a more personal level.
In May, Katie was offered a position on the board of directors for Indy Hunger Network – a collaborative organization made up of representatives of leading anti-hunger organizations and corporations in the Greater Indianapolis area. Katie gladly accepted and just went through orientation!
“It was surprising and amazing at the same time,” Katie said. “I did not think that my little voice in the meetings carried so much positive feedback.”
Katie gives thanks to HVAF’s CEO, Emmy, who took her to the first Indy Hunger Network summit meeting where she learned that there are over 200 pantries in central Indiana.
“Without her, I would not have gotten to experience being able to see the different pantries and learn that there are over 200 pantries in central Indiana that are able to house, provide, and be able to help people in the community that suffer from food loss,” Katie said.
HVAF has noticed visits to our food pantry have DOUBLED in the last year, due to grocery store price increases. You can join Katie in food relief efforts by volunteering in the pantry or making a food donation:
