March 13, 2024Meet Team HVAF: Case Manager Christine
We’ve been so grateful to have someone as passionate and caring as Christine on #TeamHVAF for 3 years! In the last year, she has been the full-time case manager on site at HVAF’s newest Permanent Supportive Housing properties: Proctor Place. Christine recently shared how she’s been able to help one of her residents, Navy Veteran Porshia, and her five children:
“Working in this field can be very challenging for a variety of reasons. One of those being lack of engagement from clients; However, Porshia has never lacked engagement with me. Porshia communicates with me on a regular basis and whenever I need information, she is always quick to respond to me. Communication is such a vital role in the success we build for ourselves and with others.
Moving into permanent housing after being homeless can be overwhelming, especially if you come with just yourself. I asked Porshia for a wish list of items to fill inside her home and with the help of funding from a community partner, I was able to shop her wish list at Walmart. Having the support of community partners and funding to fill a veteran’s home with household essentials helps to make their home truly feel like home.
When Porshia first came to Proctor Place, she was unemployed. I was able to get her referred to HVAF’s employment team services and she became employed soon after. I have helped her apply to the Military Family Relief Foundation for back-to-school and holiday assistance. Porshia has already overcome so many challenges since moving to Proctor Place and I look forward to continuously witness her succeed in the life she is creating for herself and her family.”
Porshia shared that she couldn’t be more grateful for Christine’s guidance along the way on her journey to self-sufficiency:
“Christine has been a God send. She’s helped so much with all of the paperwork,” Porshia said. “She makes everything so easy, and sends me reminders. I’m so grateful.”
