February 10, 2021HVAF’s VP for Personnel receives certification + additional role
For more than 12 years, Sammy Mitchell has played a vital role in HVAF’s mission.
She started out at HVAF as an Executive Administrative Assistant in 2008. Over the years, Sammy has received many promotions here – and currently serves as Vice President for Personnel.
Recently, Sammy received her Society for Human Resource Management – Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) certification. According to the SHRM website: “credential makes you a recognized expert and leader in the HR field—and a valuable asset to your organization, keeping you and your organization more competitive in today’s economy. This professional distinction sets you apart from your colleagues, proving your high level of knowledge and skills.”
“Earning my SHRM-CP certification allowed me to prove and demonstrate my knowledge and proficiency as an HR professional,” Sammy said. “I am excited and grateful to be able to continue using these skills and abilities to learn and grow at HVAF.”
In addition, Sammy is also the new Director of the Veterans Community Center. With this additional role, she oversees the food, clothing, and hygiene pantry – as well as the Hospitality Room. Due to COVID-19, the Hospitality Room is currently being used as an area for case managers to safely meet with veterans.
“I look forward to working with the Community Center team to serve Veterans in need by creating a safe place to receive food, clothing, and services in a friendly and efficient environment,” Sammy said.
President & CEO Brian Copes said he is proud to have Sammy’s expertise, as her role directly benefits every employee.
“HVAF is fortunate to have her on our team,” Brian said. “I know she will continue to help us further our mission with this newest accreditation, as well as in her new role as Director of the Veterans Community Center.”
