27 Hoosier Heroes are even closer to achieving their dream career!

HVAF’s VetWorks is a multi-phase, collaborative workforce development program for veterans. The program equips and trains veterans in order to obtain and maintain good and promising jobs. These veterans completed an internship during Phase One, focused on building or re-establishing soft skills. This helped the veterans gain valuable work experience, develop workplace behaviors, and receive mentorship.

Not everyone could attend the graduation, due to work and school conflicts. But check out those who were able to attend what their next steps are, written by HVAF’s VetWorks Coordinator Kristin:

Army veteran Alex

Alex just completed his Certified Community Health Worker certification and will start the job search process with VetWorks Employment Specialist Alberta this month. Alex has done an amazing job in VetWorks and while we are happy to see the progress and wish him the best, we will be sad to see him go from Downtown Indy.

Marine Corps Veteran Antonio

Antonio completed his A+ certification through United Training Academy. He is currently in job search mode and working at Downtown Indy. We are very proud of “AB”!

Navy Veteran Dana

Dana completed the Healthcare Certificate Program at Indiana Tech and is a CNA. Dana has accomplished a great deal in our program like moving out of GPD housing and into her own apartment, school, AND working! Impressive!

Air Force Veteran Darian

He is currently in New Beginnings Training Program and finishing up our IT internship. Darian has done a great job in the VetWorks internship and we are excited to see his growth from here.

Air Force Veteran Greg

Greg comes to us with a background in Project Management and is adding to his resume with Information Technology. He is almost done with the VetWorks IT internship and will be starting Cybersecurity Training at Ivy Tech this month.

Navy Veteran Harley

Harley is a member of our Clean Team at Downtown Indy. Harley will be starting CDL classes in February. Harley is doing great and has been a pleasure to have in our program.

Army Veteran Jason

Jason completed our maintenance internship at HVAF. Jason is applying for HVAC apprenticeships currently as he is working towards certification.

Army Veteran Jeanne

Jeanne is currently in our IT internship and has started her IT networking classes at Ivy Tech this month. She has grown a great deal in our program and we are excited to see her move to the next steps. 

Army Veteran Juan

Juan just completed his CDL certification and has began a new job! While we will miss Juan on our Clean Team with Downtown Indy, we are very proud to see him move forward.

Army National Guard Veteran Natalie

Natalie just completed her phase 1 at Downtown Indy and is working with VetWorks Employment Specialist Alberta to find a career in customer service or administrative work. Natalie came to us with a great resume and educational background already so sky is the limit for her!
