From HVAF resident to volunteer: Army veteran Gene’s story
October 12, 2021Happy Veterans Day: Honoring #TeamHVAF Veterans
November 3, 2021Meet Team HVAF: RRH Case Managers Erin & Paul
What is RRH?
HVAF – Helping Veterans And Families – provides many programs & services for homeless & at-risk veterans and their families. One program is Rapid Rehousing. This program is short-term rental and utility assistance for those who are currently homeless or facing eviction.
HVAF’s case managers work HARD each and every day to make sure Indianapolis’ veterans have a roof over their head. Some of their duties include housing searches, ensuring the veterans can keep up with their bills, and checking in with veterans they’ve provided housing for recently. Two RRH case managers received special shout-outs for their hard work: Paul Keck and Erin Van Meter.
Shoutout to Paul & Erin
“Recently Paul was able to get an approval for housing for a veteran who had been VERY difficult to find housing for,” Paul’s supervisor, Emily Castino, said. “So that’s a huge win there!”
Paul has worked as a case manager for HVAF since July 2020.
“I think it’s nice to work with a population that has already made a commitment to serve other people,” Paul said. “I like being able to help them with housing.”
Erin also went above and beyond for a Hoosier Hero this past month.
“She recently handled a very, very difficult situation with a client in an extremely calm and caring manner despite having to rope in multiple other agencies,” Emily said. “I am very proud of the way she handled this situation while advocating for her client and her client’s kids’ needs!”
Erin has worked for HVAF since July 2021.
“I saw how well Erin worked with this client, her compassion and client attending skills were really amazing,” RRH Director Adam Velazquez said. “It was a REALLY difficult situation and she handled it like a boss.”
