March 19, 2021Meet Team HVAF: Employment Specialist Alberta
Alberta Platt is one of our five Employment Specialists at HVAF. She has worked on the Employment Team since 2016.
Each Employment Specialist helps the veterans with interview prep, resume help, and job application assistance. Last year, HVAF’s Employment Specialists helped 190 veterans receive gainful employment.
Despite all of COVID-19’s challenges , HVAF’s Employment Team hasn’t slowed down.
“We didn’t stop, we didn’t slow down,” Employment Coordinator Kiara Walker said. “We were still able to get people placed, and get people employed and give them the assistance that they need.”
Alberta especially didn’t slow down, as she won the department’s “Placement Queen” award for 2020. She helped employ 63 veterans!
“I feel very honored to receive this award from the Employment Team,” Alberta said. “It’s not so much as performing better than my teammates, it simply means that we all worked together on the team for the good of our veterans that we serve. We do this by sharing job leads, bouncing ideas and/or questions off each other, seek advice from each other, and as we all say – ‘Teamwork makes the Dreamwork.'”
Kiara said she loves how Alberta is always ready to jump in and assist the team in any way she can. She added that all of the Employment Specialists are lucky to have her on their team.
“Alberta is such an amazing colleague and coworker. She’s a genuine person and all around team player,” Kiara said. “She makes us all proud in the amount of dedication and effort she puts into her work everyday. She is a true star on the Employment Team.”
Alberta said she enjoys employing veterans because of the satisfaction she receives in not just assisting them in attaining a job – but a career if they desire.
“I feel as if I am doing a small part to give back to our veterans because they protected our rights and freedom when they served our country,” Alberta said.
Kiara said Alberta means a lot as an Employment Specialist to HVAF’s veterans.
“Alberta is a trusted ally to her veterans,” Kiara said. “She’s a strong advocate and she is determined once she begins working with anyone.”
