As 2020 nears its end, Air Force Veteran Jessica is enjoying this time with at her own apartment with her kids.
But her life has not always looked like this.
Air Force Life + After
Jessica served in the U.S. Air Force at the beginning of the century.
“It was a lot of fun, I really enjoyed serving with the people I served with,” Jessica said. “It was the best experience of my life.”
After her time in the military, she moved to Indiana with her husband and had her first child. She went to nursing school and became a Registered Nurse. But after some time, things got harder for Jessica.
“I had some health problems and had to quit working, and my husband and I started having problems in our marriage,” Jessica said. “I ended up leaving him and couch surfing for a while.”
Finding HVAF
After years of couch surfing and trying to find somewhere to stay, she did some online research and found HVAF could help her. HVAF’s case managers helped Air Force vet get her own apartment at Veterans Villa.
“My kids started coming over again. I have a family again,” Jessica said. “I’m doing well now.”
She said she has received so much help from her case managers, Dorian LaMotte and April Vail, and her property manager, Will Najera. Although almost everything is closed due to COVID-19, her case managers have still connected her to everything she needs – while still staying safe. Jessica said she cannot believe how “amazing” everyone has been.
Now at Veterans Villa, Jessica said it is such a relief to live in her own place. She loves having her own place to decorate – especially having her own candles out and burning!
“No one can order you to leave,” Jessica said. “You don’t have to deal with anybody else, it’s your own place.”
We cannot help veterans like Jessica reconnect with their family and find their own home without your support. Consider giving to HVAF so we can serve our veterans in 2021 and beyond, today!
