December 20, 2021#12VetsOfChristmas Day Nine: Navy Veteran Michael P
This story is part of HVAF’s annual tradition: 12 Vets of Christmas, where each day we are featuring a veteran whose life has been positively changed because of the essential services and programs HVAF provided in 2021.
Navy veteran Michael used to wake up at 3 AM every day for work!
“I’m up at 3 in order to catch the bus at 4:40,” Michael said. “I get to work at about 6:10.”
Michael works as a cook for a senior care facility. Not only did he need transportation for his job, but also to find an apartment. While he sees a sign for an apartment while on the bus, it is hard to write the phone number down fast enough. He is currently living at one of HVAF’s transitional properties, but is hoping to move out and live on his own.
When his case manager called and said he is receiving a free car – he couldn’t believe it. It’s already life changing as he is now able to pick up extra shifts and earn overtime!
“I’m just happy to be considered,” Michael said. “For me to have a car is truly a blessing.”
