September 16, 2021116 Indy veterans attended annual Stand Down
In the midst of a pandemic, veterans need our help more than ever. Thankfully, HVAF could host Stand Down – an annual event that provides goods, services, and resources for veterans.
Last week HVAF held the event for the 16th time (!!) at the Indiana National Guard Armory in Indianapolis. 35+ vendors came out for the 116 attendees – including a COVID-19 vaccine clinic. HVAF’s VP for Strategy Emmy Hildebrand, who also organized the event, said a veteran shared his praise for everyone there on his way out, saying, “Thank you for being here for us!”
Emmy said this event was especially important this year, as homelessness increased among Indianapolis veterans last year by 16 percent.
“We know those experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness really borne the brunt of the COVID-19 Pandemic,” Emmy said. “It’s important now more than ever to join together and serve those who served our nation.”
Army veteran Kelvin is very happy that there are resources to help him to live a self-sufficient life.
“It’s long overdue. Military service members need the help,” Kelvin said. “This is good!”
